Microsoft Outlook unwanted auto deleting of addresses
I have Microsoft Outlook in Windows XP as my main address book and data base. Recently - for some unknown reason it has started deleting addresses and removing them to the deleted folder. I restore them to the main contacts list but again they self delete. Have tried to find out why - but to no avail. Can anyone help out there? It seems to delete recently added address - but not all. Most confusing and irritating! Would much appreciate advice

Could be malware related. Have you scanned your system recently?

If not, I can't think of anything else than malware.

No - the only sync or similar I have is with Plaxo online - and I don't think that's the cause. Am scanning again with ad ware to see if there's a virus but have just had a clean bill of health. My virus checker btw is AVG - the free version. Was wondering if it had something to do with duplicates in the Tools option - but have switched that off and the problem still occurs. Thanks anyway for your help - am shutting down now for the day ! If you have any thoughts though they will be welcome.

Read this first, than you might want to ask to be moved to the Malware Removal & HijackThis Logs section by clicking on "Report". Be patient though, those guys are very busy and are volunteers.

This happened to me also. Are you using AOL? I went to my Outlook settings and changed the default that required the deletion of emails after downloading. This has not happend since I did that this morning. I think this happened while trying to link a new blacberry curve pda.

Thanks for this - not quite clear what you mean - where is this default box? Couldn't find anything in my Tools/maintenance section in Outlook

Hi Buster2000

Before moving your thread to the Malware forum.
What version of Outlook are using?
There is not a Tools > Maintenance section for Outlook, but there is for Outlook Express.

Have you tried creating a new profile for Outlook?
How to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2007 and in Outlook 2003

Let us know.

I am using Microsoft Outlook as part of Office 2003. I'll check out the new profile and see if that helps. Thanks

and one other thing - I use Outlook only as a data base for address and calender - not for e mails. I see the profile changing seems to apply for e mails only?

Having an e-mail account in Outlook 2003 is not a requirement.

When it asks for an e-mail account, cancel out of that option.

thanks for this - have opened a new profile - but find that the address book is blank! This despite the instructions which say that outlook address book and personal folders are automatically added each new e mail profile. So have reopened my old profile and everything is there - and possibly the autodeleting problem too! Anyway thanks for the thought
