| I've been noticing my internet-related programs bogging down significantly in the last week or so, and today I started getting random pop-ups on sites where they shouldn't be (google, here, for instance). Also, my anti-virus suite will occasionally jump up and identify something trying to take control of adobe acrobat, but it always seems to solve the problem and it hasn't actually popped up with that warning in the last week or so, so that may or may not be related. I've attached a HijackThis log from a few minutes ago to assist the fixing-my-pc process. Thanks in advance, I've come here before and it's always been a great help. | Just wanted to give an update: it seems things are getting worse still. It took firefox a couple of bouts of going completely non-responsive to even make it back to this page, meaning that it took me the better part of 10 minutes to go from clicking the firefox icon to make it to this page. If it helps I'd also like to add that all the pop-ups I've started getting are in IE windows [edit]just got a firefox one, so scratch that[/edit], which makes even less sense to me because I exclusively use Firefox and Thunderbird for my browsing and email needs. Ironically, most of the pop-ups also seem to be advertising anti-spyware type products. Oi. If there's any further information I can provide to help you help me out, just let me know. Thanks! [edit] I'll also add that I'll be online for the next hour or two (till about 2am EST) and am really interested in getting this all sorted out asap. I leave the country for school in a few days and badly need my laptop to be back up to snuff! [/edit] Last edited by BBSpeed26; 20-Feb-2009 at 01:09 AM.. Reason: added info |

| Status update: Pop-ups will now sporadically pop-up when I'm not even using the internet. I'm running a full virus scan through symantec endpoint as we speak, though it hasn't found anything thus far after running for nearly 4 hours (it's still going). Does anyone have any idea what's going on? I'm clinging to straws here, and am worried that inaction on my part is just making things worse, but I don't know what to do. |

| Status update (again): I just got home from work and my virus scan is still going. It's actually come across a few viruses/trojans (or at least identified a few things as such) in my app data/java/etc. folder and my app data/thunderbird/etc folder. I will note that the scan is still running now after 16+ hours. Help! |

| Well, after over 24 hours of scanning, Symantec has finally finished. Here is a screenshot of the results (I whited out a couple of the entries that were falsely identified): ![]() Also, here is the latest HijackThis log. The problem has not been solved, my internet is still incredibly slow, with the same sporadic pop-ups. Sorry for the repeated posts, just trying to be as helpful as possible whenever someone finds the time to help me. Thanks again!
