I have an XPS M1330 laptop that is about two years old with vista ultimate installed on it from the factory. about a week ago, while on the internet, the computer screen went a bit crazy with red lines and the original image distorted as if it had been smashed, but the computer physically seemed fine. after about 30 secs, it shut down. when i turned it back on again, it said start in safe mode/ start normally. it said that the computer had not shut down properly but when i said start up normally, it went to the microsoft screen with the green bar but before it could do the vista logo, the screen went black and then flickered into life and then went black again and stayed dead with the power on. the hdd was not doing any work, as the light was not lit up and after about 5 mins of no activity, i held the power button and shut it down.

i tried it again in safe mode, and it booted up fine as if nothing was wrong, but obviously i wanted normal mode so i shut it down properly.

after failing to boot twice, it came up with, instead of start in safe mode/start normally, the launch startup repair. after trying to repair and restore, it still did not work but then after doing repair a second time it fixed itself and it was back to normal.

however, a couple of days ago, the same thing happened. after going through the same procedure as above. after that it started crashing after i leave it for about 10 hrs without use and when i come back, it is shut down and the thing where it fails to boot happens again. however these times, all it does after searching for problem is restore to previous restore point. however this only helps temporarily.

the windows quick scan has no problems and i have started a few full scans but i never get the result before it crashes.

i am running a hijackthis scan and will post the results as soon as i have them

That was what came up one time after it did the same strange freeze thing, i cut the power and then restarted it. i left it by itself and i came back to it and it had the logon screen and when i logged on, it had this thing with: Windows has Recovered from an Unexpected Shutdown.

Please help!
