Black Screen on Windows XP
Hi, first, I am a very young grandma and don't know much about comp like software or hardware, but could possible follow detailed instructions. I have not found a post for this problem.
I have been watching and downloading YouTube videos for about a month now, but before the black screen crash, I got this very quick flash on a window that said you need virus protection - your comp is infected. I Xed out of that and continued. The next day, I was running a program called "Window Washer" which is suppose to keep all the little bits of loose data from clogging up the comp and slowing it down - I suppose. I was tying an email while this was running and it was slow so I stopped the process and that is when the black screen appeared. I finally realized that Windows was working but not until I had already done a destructive recovery. I can see a little by using a flashlight, but I have NO idea what this is or what to do. I can't afford a new comp now and I am using this old desktop now. I sure hope someone can help. My Comp is a HP bought in 2003 - Windows XP. Thank you so much! I also have not used a forum before. Hope I'm doing this right.

black screen on HP laptop Windows XP Home
Deleted this previous message as it did not contain the info you needed. I copied and pasted the log and I can't find it in the forum now. I sent email to you as indicated. I will try to run scan and post log again. I am working on a black screen with a flashlight and it is tedious . I hope I can at least get this posting correct somehow. I have never posted to a forum before and certainly never tried to fix such a serious problem on comp. I am a self taught senior and know very little about the software or hardware and/or virus. Please don't give up on me and give me further instructions. Thank you kindly.
