Windows media player problem?
Hey everyone, this is my problem:

About a week ago when the problem started i connected my phone via bluetooth to my computer to attempt to transfer photos (im not sure if this is related but I thought I'd let you know anyways). The next day when i restarted my computer the sound of a usb device being disconnected and reconnected kept playing every 4-5 seconds. At first i thought it was my wireless mouse's signal being interefered with or something. However, when i unplugged it the sounds persisted; my mouse is the only thing connected to my computer by usb. So i went into the volume mixer to mute windows sounds. While i had the mixer open i noticed windows media player appearing, muting itself, quickly unmuting itself, then closing every 4-5 seconds in sync with the sounds. Also, I noticed windows sync center was running in the volume mixer. I then restarted my computer but the same thing happend except this time there were 4 sync centers running in the volume mixer and every couple minutes one would close or another would open. I ran a full system virus scan with Norton 360 but it found nothing. Im running Vista 32-bit on an HP Pavillion desktop. The lag this problem creates causes some programs to become virtually unusable; help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Download VLC or Gomplayer (forgot the spelling) If that doesn't solve the problem, most you hijack this log

Search Settings is malware. Remove it via add/remove programs if you can if not just fix it with HJT and delete the folder C:\Program Files\Search Settings

Run HJT again, Right click and Run as Administrator, put a check in the following:

R3 - URLSearchHook: SearchSettings Class - {E312764E-7706-43F1-8DAB-FCDD2B1E416D} - C:\Program Files\Search Settings\kb126\SearchSettings.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: SearchSettings Class - {E312764E-7706-43F1-8DAB-FCDD2B1E416D} - C:\Program Files\Search Settings\kb126\SearchSettings.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SearchSettings] C:\Program Files\Search Settings\SearchSettings.exe

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Let me know how the machine is running.

I removed search settings 1.1 with add or remove programs and checked hijack this for those entries. I fixed the two that I found and so far it seems to have fixed the problem. Thank you very much everyone for your help . I'll let you know if the problem starts again.

ive started hearing the usb sound again and in the volume mixer windows media player is doing the same thing. It keeps doing it every once in a while; its not constant. It might do it for 15 minutes then not for the next hour and then it'll do it for the next 45 minutes .
