Hello & thank you very, very much for any help on this. I put this log onto notebk & copied, but can provide the actual TM screen if that is preferable. This poor computer is so slow now that I often leave the room to do other things in lieu of waiting for the scroll down on the same page. No popups of note, or error msgs. I use Spybot & Adaware & CCleaner a lot. Housecall is too slow and doesn't work on this computer, which uses xp, ie 7, and oe 6. Any advice, any help, will be fantastic, since this is going past a point I can stand.

Hello Cybertech. I have nowhere near enough RAM which I know is part of the prob, but I wanted to be sure I'm not heavily infected on top of that. Coast

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

• Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
• Under Main choose: Select All
• Click the Empty Selected button.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.




Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here.

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

• Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
• Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.


After I see the scan I will help you remove startups that you do not need.

OK, here's what happened.

1. atf freed up 9500 kbs
2. I already had mbam installed. I ran it as is, & it found 0 malicious.
3. I tried to update mbam, which said that I needed to ok it w/ my firewall. I don't know if my firewall is window's, or avg's, in which case it would be called a Resident Shield, which may not be a firewall at all, I'm not sure. If it is windows, which I think is the most likely, I don't know where to find it. What's it called? Where does it hang out?
4. I checked my hard disk capacity, which is 71.3, of which I had, at that time, 54.1 free. I know this is insufficient, but is this insufficiency the entire explanation for this astounding slowness I'm experiencing?
5. I'd like to rerun mbam after updating b4 I lose you. If you can, pls let me know how to update as abv.

Open Control Panel and look in Security Center for your firewall options.

I installed a new version of mbam & it's still reporting my computer's clean. Does this mean that all my probs are inadequate memory? Is mbam as thorough as hjt?

Malwarebytes is more like Spybot S&D and/or AdAware. It's a malware removal tool. Hijackthis is a tool for seeing what's running on the machine. It has not been updated since TrendMicro purchased it. Without updates it will cease to be of any value in the future.



I would suggest removing Yahoo & Google toolbars.


What is ATPStartupAssistant.exe?


You don't need a lot of the applications you have in start up. Example would be mimboot.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/star....exe-3157.html


You can use the link to bleepingcomputer to check all of your startups and decide if you want to start them manually or leave them in startup.
You don't have to delete them and don't do it with hijackthis, use msconfig to just remove them from startup.



Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG, then click OK - "Startup" tab.

Click Apply - OK afterwards, then reboot. When the SCU window appears during reboot, ignore the message. Place a checkmark in the window, then click OK.

If you decide you want something running that you have disabled just use msconfig again and uncheck the item(s).

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand.

I think you want me to uncheck at least the 3 items you listed - [Minboot] etc - and then restart. What I don't know is how to gauge what other items to uncheck. There are a few I can see can be done, but most of them I don't know. Eg - I have no idea what atpstartup is, unless it's an old security program I used to have.

So, this comes down to a matter of whether I can uncheck most of the items knowing I can reaccess any of them via config, right?. What programs are really nec for startup, beyond the very obvious, as a gen rule? Shouldn 't startup be extremely streamlined?

Use msconfig again to stop ATPStartupAssistant.exe

Restart the machine and post a new HJT log so I can see what is running.

Not everything should be disabled you have to research the files to see if they are required or not.

I figured out what atpstartup is (active trader pro, a brokerage program).

I'll run a new log in a few.

I know not to disable 1st and ask later, but I don't know where to research this. I tried researching the hjt log myself last week, and just got strings of long #s that took hours to match up, and which seemed ok when I did.

If you're viewing HijackThis from the Main Menu then click on "Open the Misc Tools Section".
Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.
Click the "Save List" button.
