Upon opening IE, a trojan is installed with a random name and runs in processes, and is added to the msconfig startup list, and adds trojans to the C:\Documents and settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Temp Folder. Some examples of the process name(s) I have seen in Task Manager have been: a.exe, b.exe, c.exe, 7E.exe, among others. I killed all the processes associated with the trojan as soon as they appeared. I also deleted files associated with the suspect processes. After doing this, everything seemed ok until I used IE the next time and then after loading the default home page, it opens a new window re-directing to another site. Also, new processes with a random "Alfa numeric name".exe (7E, 7F, etc) appear in processes/msconfig, and I have to stop/delete those again. So long as I don't use IE, everything seems fine, but unfortunately, I have to use IE in order to do certain tasks for work.
AVG link scanner also seems to have stopped functioning in FireFox, and IE.

Now AVG doesn't pick up anything on my system, but I'm positive opening IE will start the whole nasty thing again. How do I get rid of this problem? Please help.

Update:

Problem fixed. Here's what I did..

Killed the processes in task manager: 7E.exe

Searched for .tmp.exe files that had been created/modified when the problem started, and deleted them.

Deleted all the files from the local settings\temp folder

Edited registry to remove deleted msconfig startup items.

Updated Xp by setting auto updates to automatically download at the next available time interval, I did not do it manually, or I believe it would have re-infected the system when IE was started.

Ran CWS shredder CWS shredder identified one problem, and clicked "fix".

Re-started

Started all my internet programs: IE, Firefox, Yahoo messenger, while verifying no new windows opened, or processes started in task manager.

IE appears stable now, and does not re-install the trojan into processes or the temp file. I don't know what did the trick, but suspect the CWS shredder program was the key.
