Google being redirected
Hi, My computer was automatically going online and scanning my hard drive before telling me that I needed to download software to remove threats. I did not do this. I closed my browser (firefox 3) then I attempted to search something on google, where I was either redirected to 'bestwebsearch.com' or my browser went painfully slow. I ran a avg virus scan and it found 2 trojans, I removed them and my browser is now working fine apart from 'bestwebsearch' constantly appearing or redirecting me from google. I'm now out of ideas as I've never had a virus before. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou, FOF.

Hello and welcome to Tech Support Guy.

My name is km2357 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

I will be giving you a series of instructions that need to be followed in the order in which I give them to you.

If for any reason you do not understand an instruction or are just unsure then please do not guess, simply post back with your questions/concerns and we will go through it again.

Please do not start another thread or topic, I will assist you at this thread until we solve your problems.

Lastly the fix may take several attempts and my replies may take some time but I will stick with it if you do the same.

Sorry for the delay in replying, the forum is very busy. If you still need help, please do the following:

Step # 1: Download and Run HijackThis

Download HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
  • Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.

Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi, Thank you very much for your reply, greatly appreciated. I have however managed to fix the problem, I ran windows restore and everything seemed to be fine, until an hour later when firefox began to run slower and slower. I eventually got fed up and took the easy way out and restored my computer to it's factry settings as I've not had it long. Thank you anyway for your reply, I respect this forum and it's users for the help it offers! Peace.
