Oh wait. I uninstalled some programs that I thought were unrelated (memturbo and advanced registry optimizer) via the control panel. If these were related to combofix, that might explain it. So I guess I just need to know if uninstalling those via control panel has the same effect as what you explained in your previous post. If not, I'm not sure what to do.

Try downloading Combofix to your desktop, then run the Combofix /u command. Make sure there is a space between the x and the /.

Let me know if that works first before I suggest the next thing.

It says the same error (Windows cannot find 'Combofix'...) which is weird since I now clearly have Combofix installed. Even when I type in "Combo-fix" (with hyphen) it still gives the same error.

Ok, you can manually delete it.

Delete the following folders
  • C:\Combofix
    C:\Qoobox

Now it is important to make a clean RESTORE POINT just in case you have a problem down the track eg: a botched install

To create a restore point manually,
  • 1. Click Start
    2. Right click on My Computer
    3. Select Properties
    4. From the tasks pane on the left, click System Protection
    5. Select a disk (place check mark in box if it is not already checked) from the list, usually C:, and click on the Create button.
    6. Type a name to describe this restore point (eg. "After clean")
    7. Click Create button

It is then advisable to remove all OLD restore points incase infection is hiding there. Please read here on how to do that.

Let me know how it goes.

Followed all the instructions. As far as I can tell, this is solved. Thanks so much for the help. Let me know if there's anything else I should do. Thanks again.
