Possible Virus/Malware
I have an Acer Aspire X3200 with an AMD Phenom processor running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit.

The system became infected with malware/virus, and I think I still might have problems with the malware/virus. The DVD drive does not appear in Windows, and it doesn't recognize any bootable CD/DVD.

If I boot the system and enter the BIOS options, the CD/DVD does appear as a boot option there. I choose to make it the "first boot" option, and choose the hard drive as the "second boot" option. I save the changes and exit the BIOS.

When I reboot, this message appears:
"Boot From AHCI CD-ROM:"
The system hesitates for about 20 seconds, and then proceeds to show the Vista startup logo. Once the startup logo appears, the system continues to show it for about another 30 seconds, but never boots to the CD/DVD, nor does it continue on to actually boot into Windows. The screen eventually either goes blank, or "freezes" on the Vista startup logo...

I have tried every CD/DVD that I own that is bootable, including a Windows XP CD used to format my other system, but the Acer never boots from the CD/DVD drive - and the CD/DVD drive does not show up in Windows Vista (when I can boot to it).

If I attempt to boot normally in Windows, the startup logo appears, but the system never boots into the operating system. So at this point, I don't know what virus/malware is infecting the computer, and I can't use the CD/DVD drive to format the hard drive and start with a fresh install of the operating system. I can, however (from time-to-time), boot into "Safe Mode". But it, too, more often than not, results in the system simply "freezing" up before it actually boots into safe mode.
