Unhappy Help needed for a deaf Veteran and his little friend G
Hi my friend Bob' s only real way of communicating and getting current events is via the internet. Unfortunately we have aquired something that is making that very frustrating.
ok, let me explain the symptoms first:
Windows and subsequently IE takes a very long time to start and almost immediately IE stalls and when the close page X is clicked an End unresponsive program message appears, so we click close and it doesn't.
Severall attempt are often needed ,when we finally do get it to close it slides away as if there is something running in the back ground.
Also we now have frutti ads and Porn. and the the address bar (if thats right) on the bottom is constantly changing.

The windows media player asks for verification every time I try to listen to music or watch a video. I downloaded hijack-this as advised.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Just let me know what to do next.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

You're welcome!

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

O2 - BHO: fruttinet - {cf4dbfe4-b3c3-78c7-c6a3-6cfc43fff245} - C:\WINDOWS\system32
\e4211fe1-9410-4bbd-b540-0f532989300d.dll
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {D0943516-5076-4020-A3B5-AEFAF26AB263} - (no file)

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:

Just to help out with your one question (Cybertech is not online...)

No, you do not want to turn off System Restore just now, you may need the Restore Points in a pinch. Nothing can "come back" unless you actually use System Restore....

Download OTS.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTS on your desktop.
  1. Close any open browsers.
  2. If your Real protection or Antivirus intervenes with OTS, allow it to run.
  3. Open the OTS folder and double-click on OTS.exe to start the program.
  4. In Additional Scans section put a check in Disabled MS Config Items and EventViewer logs
  5. Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  6. The program will be scanning huge amounts of data so depending on your system it could take a long time to complete. Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  7. When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  8. Save that notepad file
Use the Reply button, scroll down to the attachments section and attach the notepad file here.

The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. Click the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix.
Post that information back here.

I will review the information when it comes back in.
