Unhappy Computer Einsteins, please help!
OK, so I have a Compaq Presario laptop with Windows Vista. About a week ago, my speakers just stopped working. I tried reinstalling the sound driver, but that didn't work. So I took it to my neighbor, who is a computer technician of some sort, and he said that some sort of program that I downloaded had a bunch of spyware/malware that totally threw my sound system out of wack. He also told me that my computer had a lot of malware on it. He said to completely get rid of all the viruses, I would have to wipe my hard drive and re-scan and maybe even wipe another time. What's weird is that my antivirus software (AVG Free) or Malwarebytes haven't detected any viruses, and my computer isn't too slow, though it can be a bit sluggish at times. Anyway, he got me all fixed up and sound came from my speakers again. I don't know what he did to fix it, but he did. I thought it was all good but now, all of a sudden, no sound coming from the speakers. What should I do? Please help!!!

you probably still have malware

Post a HJT log here
see my signature for a link to the program

Once you have posted the log, we will move to the malware forum...

click on the report link at the bottom of each post and ask to be moved ,
if i see a reply with a HJT log, i will move

Please visit Combofix Guide & Instructions for instructions for installing the recovery console and downloading and running ComboFix.

The only thing different from the instructions there is that when downloading and saving the ComboFix.exe I would like you to rename it to puppy.exe please.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that along with a new HijackThis log.

Important notes regarding ComboFix:

ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making it the default browser. This can easily be changed once we're finished.

ComboFix also prevents autorun of ALL CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you, please let me know. This can be undone manually when we're finished. Read HERE for an article written by dvk01 on why we disable autoruns.
