1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.

• Right click on the Avenger.zip folder and select "Extract All..."
• Follow the prompts and extract the avenger folder to your Desktop

2. Copy all the text contained in the Quote box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

3. Now, open The Avenger folder and start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon.

• Click on Execute
• Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:

• It will Restart your computer.
  Note: In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Delete", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.
• On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
• After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
• The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log .

I am not sure where this infection came from.


Download Registrar Lite
Save it to your desktop.
Double click on it and follow the setup wizard.

Click on Continue with LITE.

Go to File, Backup and Restore.
Click on the Camera icon at the bottom left and using the drop down menu select Backup Registry.
Give the backup a name and click ok.
Wait for the backup to complete.
When it is finished click the X in the top right to close the window.


Copy and paste the follow text into the address bar, then hit 'Go':
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Filter\text/html

In the pane on the right are the values associated with that key.
We want to remove this one -> {fa881631-2f60-45f7-a871-de8907c94120}
Right click on it, and select delete.


Please post your hijackthis log again.

I consider myself to be fairly technical and can do most things with ease...however, I can not find this registry value. I was able to find: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Filter\text/webviewhtml

but that's not the same as what you said to find and I also can find that value anywhere...

help again!

Can you find batmeter16.dll in the registry?

I searched for the file(value) in the registry and could not find it. I will do a more comprehensive search tonight and post my findings.

Does it make sense that it shows in the HJT log and I haven't been able to locate it on the computer?

I have seen this problem before with the O18's. I have been able to fix it with Registrar Lite or looking at other profiles on the machine. This one is perplexing.

OK tonight I searched all of the registry folders for the batmeter16.dll file - found nothing. Did a general search of the entire c drive and found nothing.

What next?

Overall, the machine is performing better but still a bit glitchy at times.

What is the default browser used here IE or FireFox?


Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG, then click OK - "Startup" tab. Remove the checkmark from:

RealTray :RealPlay.exe
mmtask: mmtask.exe
QuickTime Task: QTTask.exe
SunJavaUpdateSched: jusched.exe


Click Apply - OK afterwards, then reboot. When the SCU (System Configuration Utility) window appears during reboot, ignore the message. Place a checkmark in the window, then click OK.

You should remove all of the tools I requested you to download and/or folders associated with them now. It is pointless to keep these tools around as they are updated so frequently that the tools can be outdated within a few days, sometimes within just hours.


Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)

1. Turn off System Restore.

• On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
• Click Properties.
• Click the System Restore tab.
• Check Turn off System Restore.
• Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore.

• On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
• Click Properties.
• Click the System Restore tab.
• UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
• Click Apply, and then click OK.

System Restore will now be active again.



NEXT

• Start OTS
• Click the CleanUp button
  • OTS will download a small file from the Internet. If a security program or firewall warns you of this allow it to download.
  • OTS will delete any tools downloaded and files/folders created and then ask you to reboot so it can remove itself.
• Click Yes.

Now you should Clean up your PC
