Folder turned into 384k applications
I got a virus or malware from an usb while transferring a file from my wife’s computer to my computer. My wife asked me why all her folders are now 384k application. So she was not able to access any data in those folders. So we restored her computer to an earlier date and her computer was fine for an about 2 weeks now she is having problems again. She uses window vista.

Now my computer was a different story. I restored twice and my folders were still 384k application. The c: drive still had the same amount of data stored it in. I would right clicked my computer and look at the properties.

I would constantly get the message below…

Window – No Disk
Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c

I get the same message when I am in safe mode

I had a short cut on my desktop to a folder that was turned into an application. I can click on the shortcut and access all my files in that folder. So this was proof that the data had not disappeared.

I have AVG but it didn’t catch anything. I downloaded Super Anti Spyware and after 22 hours of scanning it found over 2000 Trojan.Agent/Gen.Process

I took another 20 hours plus for Super Anti Spyware to get ride of all the virus. After the restart my computer seemed cleaned. There was no more “Window – No Disk” message. However all my folders in My Documents were gone. Data still there, as I can see it by going to properties of My Documents.

When I go to folder option to try to show hidden files, there is no more folder option in my control panel. I was able to fix that problem. And can now see hidden folders and file but still could not see my folders. So I went to folder option again and un-clicked “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).” After doing this I was now able to see the folders that were in My Documents.

So the tojan.agent/gen.process had turned my regular folders into a “protected operation system folder”. Is there any way to change a “protected operation system folder” to a regular folder?

I have a Sony Vaio,
Microsoft Windows XP
Home edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Below is a HijackThis report before I cleaned the computer of the trojan.
