Angry Virus spreading fast
I downloaded an .exe file and when I ran it, my screen went blank and my computer restarted. After restarting the only thing that shows is the wallpaper and nothing else loads on to the screen.

I started it in Safe Mode with Networking. Opened Internet Explorer to run online virus scan since my Norton Antivirus expired recently. So while computer was being scanned, the window closed itself and after trying a few other online scans (HouseCall, BitDefender) the icon of the Internet Explorer changed to the icon of the .exe file on the Desktop and it does not allow me to open the Internet anymore. A window pops up saying it has been relocated and I dont have access or something.

Then I restarted again and in Safe Mode I opened Mozilla Firefox and saved HijackThis on the desktop. I let it scan and something was saved on the desktop named HijackThis but same thing happened like the Internet Explorer. The icon changed and it wont open so I cannot copy paste the log. I am hesitant to simply do a system restore because I dont know when was the last time it restored it, is there a way to check?

Please let me know what to do. Thank you.

this should run in Safe mode just fine.

Download Combofix from this webpage: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Hijackthis still isnt creating a log which I can open. The virus has infected it and prevents me from opening the file it creates. Hopefully combofix is good enough for now.

We can fix HIjackthis. Its a permission error.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here.

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

===============================================

Please download Inherit by sUBs and save it to your Desktop.
  • Drag and drop the File onto Inherit.exe.
  • This shall restore permissions to the application.
  • You will then receive an Ok message from Inherit.exe.
  • Press Ok.

Intead of saving inherit to your desktop save to the same location as HIjackthis. Then just drag Hijackthis.exe into Inherit.exe.

Let me know if you can run Hijackthis.

Hijackthis still not working
I downloaded Inherit but as soon as it showed up on my desktop it had the same icon as the one that shows up once the hijackthis log file is created. I still dragged hijackthis into the Inherit.exe tho and the ok window did come but still after I double-clicked on hijackthis, the log file that was created was still inaccessible. So it didnt work.

inherit.exe needs to be in this folder
c:\program files\Trend Micro

That is where Hijackthis.exe is located. Drag Hijackthis.exe into Inherit.exe and let me know if it still isn't work. You will need to reboot your computer for the result to take place.
