Please start RootRepeal, and, before doing anything else, try changing the "Disk Access Level" in the Settings->Options dialog. Try moving it to the "Special" or "High" level. Also, click on the Files tab, and uncheck "Use lowest level for MBR check". Please let me know if this fixes the problem.

Also, you might have to right click the file and select "Run as Administrator" for it to work properly.

Hi, well now when I plug in my memory card reader I don't get a pop up and I can't access the information on it. I need this stuf today..
I go to my computer and it doesn't show up there, it never did.
Please tell me how to make it so I get the pop up that asks if I want to open the file. This is so frustrating...
I've been sick, so I haven't tried to do more computer fixing lately.

Well, I downloaded firefox to use, it never worked before, but this time it did, everything was great, much faster. I have little ram so I took some files off the computer, put them on a memory card.
It was much faster, I ran my AVG antivirus and got things cleaned out.
I was able to update my flash player very easily and simply.
I was so happy, it was working properly for the first time since I got it.
The blue crash dump screen showed up once, but I was able to start it up properly. I thought getting all the updates I needed for so long would be good since things were working together finally.
Before I couldn't use the internet after the updates so I had to uninstall them over and over. Well... now I get the blue crash dump screen and I can't start it in safe mode, normal mode or anything else. I have files on there that took forever to build and I really need them... I don't know what to do with it at all. I have nothing plugged in to the usb ports or anything. I'm so screwed.
Do you think this will help:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...EOIBSA:US:1123
I have to try something. It was running so nicely!! I could finally use it at a decent speed and all the good stuff...
Yikes.
Thanks.

That thing on ebay seems to be a scam. It's probably a cd with utilities you can get for free online.

You should create a new topic in a technical forum, probably in the Vista forum, describing your situation as I cannot help you any more.

I can't get anything online at all anymore.
I can't even turn the computer on. I am using this one right now, but it's not mine. I can't download anything.
It just started when I ran that program... the one with the cat face on the icon. If It was a scam why would they refund the money? also if it was it couldn't be on ebay. I have an ebay business and I've been doing it since 2002. So I know how it works... and that's why I need my computer so much.

Do you have your Windows installation cd/dvd ? You might be able to use that to repair your operating system. Try THIS first , and if it doesn't work you will need to do THIS.

Alternately, you could use a different operating system to recover your files. See HERE for more information.

Seeing as ComboFix never ran completely and your computer worked fine after that attempt to run it (the RootRepeal errors had nothing to do with it), I do not believe it to be the cause of your problems. Your computer was either badly infected or your computer was about to die for another reason (ie. harddrive corruption).

Since you stopped following my instructions in my attempts to clean your system from an infection and then caused further damage to your system by uninstalling updates without knowing what you were really doing, I do not feel inclined to help you any further.

If you really do need help with recovering your data or your system you should create a new topic in the Vista forum where the technical gurus can give you more advice.

The combofix ran until it asked to restart the computer. After that I got the blue screen and all that...

I never uninstalled any necessary updates. I only uninstalled the update that caused me to not be able to use the internet, like I did for the last 3 years... without any problems. I removed an antivirus that did nothing in the first place.

There's no need to be mean here. I understand that this isn't your job and I asked for help but don't offer help if you don't want to give it.

I am having someone here fix it.
Thanks for the trouble.

Well, I fixed everything myself.
I had to make a vista image dvd on another computer... this one refused to even turn on or boot... but I saved it and all my information, along with ridding myself of the one simple virus that caused the problem I inquired about... I am still in need of RAM since this poor thing is trying to run on 512mb I'm getting 2GB in the mail shortly. (Samsung)
so yeehaw, thank God I can think for myself.
This is my last post here.
