DCOM Server Process Launcher Terminated -- Need Help!

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site but I'm hoping I can get some help from someone.

For a few weeks now, my computer (Running OS Windows XP) has been giving me the blue screen of death every time it restarts. The only way I've been able to start my computer is by using the F8 option and then restarting using the last known configurations that worked. Every other option results in the blue screen again. I've scanned using AVG, Malwarebytes, and even bought RegTool, all to no avail. It still restarts with the blue screen. Then today as I was starting my computer the DCOM Server Process Launcher Terminated popped up and said it was shutting down in 1 minute. This happened a few times until I used another computer to figure out that I could do start-->run-->shutdown -a to terminate the countdown.

I have no idea what's going on and my computer really doesn't appear any different once I get it started up. Everything is going at fairly normal speed but the DCOM thing continues to pop up and I haven't been able to do a normal restart in weeks.

Since it has been a while please post a NEW HJT log along with an uninstall list explained below.

Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

Start HijackThis
Click on the Config button
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Save the file to your desktop.

Please post this log on your next reply.

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Muppy,

I successfully uninstalled all of the programs you recommended except for RegTool. When I tried, a message popped up saying "preparing to open windows Installer". Then after a few seconds it said "Windows Installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, of if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed."

I then proceeded to shut down all of my antivirus and antispyware applications one at a time. When I right-clicked the ZoneAlarm symbol in my tray and tried to restore the program so I could change the settings, the screen that popped up only had the ZoneAlarm logo on the top with a white screen everywhere else. So I right-clicked again and selected "Shut Down" and there were a few errors in that process that happened too fast for me to write down verbatum. I recall one saying "Bad Image" and then "SVCHost.exe could not be executed".

Once ZoneAlarm shut down, I downloaded ComboFix as you recommended and followed the instructions exactly. It installed the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console and then proceeded to scan my computer. Then it said to allow ComboFix to restart my computer.

As it was restarting, I got multiple errors that I again couldn't write down fast enough, but many were saying that "x program could not be executed because windows is shutting down".

My computer restarted and I didn't have to press F8 for it to boot up, ComboFix was open on my computer and it said it was preparing to create the log file for me and not to open any other windows.

I obliged and let it run its course.... and then the Blue Screen of Death popped up before ComboFix could create a log for me. (arghhhhh!)

Not sure what to do next, I restarted my computer using the F8--->Last Known Configuration That Worked, and here I am now.

I will wait for further instruction, do let me know if you'd still like the new HJT log.

P.S. When I restart my computer, as ZoneAlarm is loading, a message saying "SVChost.exe could not be executed" pops up and it gives me the option to either Cancel or Debug the program. No matter which option I select, the DCOM Server Processor Launched box comes up again with the 60 second countdown to shut down my computer. Is Zone Alarm anything to do with this? Thank you so much for the help, and I'll wait for your response before doing anything.

So not sure where that left us? Is the computer on? If it is on have a look in the
C:\ combofix or C:\qoobox for the ComboFix.txt log. If it is there please post it with a new HJT.

Sorry, could have explained it better. My computer is on though, after restarting using F8--->Last Known Good Configuration.

In C:\ComboFix i did find this text document, just not sure if it's the log file since I got the blue screen of death before it could finish. Here it is, along with a new HJT log.

You do have 2 firewalls enabled. Running 2 is not needed and can cause problems so I would suggest removing or turning one off immediately.

Download and Run ATF Cleaner
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) CleanerÂ© by Atribune to your desktop.
Make sure that all browser windows are closed.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser,To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save to your desktop.

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to:

Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform Full scan, then click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the log back into your next reply

Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

When I tried to turn Zone Alarm off, my computer basically froze up and started giving me endless error messages of "Bad Image" for practically everything on my desktop. If I click OK, another error message pops up, and if I click Debug, more errors as well. I had to restart. Then I tried uninstalling Zone Alarm through the Add/Remove Programs tab and I got the same errors, forcing a restart again.

For some reason, RSII isn't downloading properly. I click on "Continue" on the disclaimer as you said and the following pops up, forcing RSII's shutdown.

I already have Malwarebytes so I will scan now for those logs and I will wait for your help on how to get RSII up and running, so I can post it all together.

As I was scanning using Malwarebytes, about an hour in my AVG Anti-Virus Free software alerted me that a trojan horse was found in C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes'Anti-Malaware\mbam.exe.

I clicked on Heal and then Malwarebytes stopped running.

I reopened Malwarebytes and tried again, and AVG alerted me again after about an hour that a trojan horse was found in the same place and it (AVG) started doing a virus scan automatically as Malwarebytes shut down.

I really have no idea what's going on, but will trust your directions... It just seems to be attacking my anti-malware and firewall programs, which is making it all worse.

Standing by, while AVG is continuing it's automatic scan.

Disable AVG while MBAM is running, remember to enable when it is finished.
