Full of Nasties
Hi. an someone plese help me out, I'm pretty sure my computer is riddled with nasties. I've done the Hijack thing that it says to do in the "read before posting". To summarise, I think my main problems are:
  1. Every time I open Internet Explorer I get a box saying that a program has corrupted my searh thingy and it brings up and 'add ons' window, so I click on 'don't let programs change settings' but it still does it next time. It won't let me change the default search engine either.
  2. Every time I turn my computer on I get a pop up window saying "Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows" - "To help protect your computer, Windows has closed Windows LogonUI". When I close the message I get a 'submit report' request which I decline, and the the message comes back on and it's one big viscious circle.
  3. My computer is really, really slow and always seems to be doing something in the background.
  4. I downloaded a file from the net which turned out to be one of those install porn sites programs (joyus!), I did a system restore which has taken those icons off my desktop but I'm presuming their menice is still in effect somewhere??
  5. In case you hadn't gathered, I know just enough about computers to get myself in the poo, lol. Unfortunately I don't know anything about getting myself out of it. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
This is the hijack link thing:

Hello and welcome to TSG Forums

My handle is shinybeast and I will be assisting you in the removal of malware your computer may have.

Please follow these guidelines as we work to clean your computer.
  • Read through the instructions before you perform them and if you have questions please ask before you perform them. Please do not guess. I will be happy to clarify or explain.
  • Perform all instructions in the order given.
  • Stick with the process until I give you an "all clean." If the symptoms are gone, it does not necessarily mean your computer is safe and secure.
  • The instructions assume you are using an account with administrator privileges.
  • Do not run any other tools to remove malware while we are working.
  • Post all responses in a reply to this topic - Please do not start a new topic.
  • If your security software throws up warnings about some of these tools, please allow these tools to run, they are safe.

NOTE: I am in training at Malware Removal University. I must get my replies to you approved by a malware expert which means it could take slightly longer to get back to you.
Your patience is appreciated.

Installed Program List

I would be helpful to see a list of programs installed on your computer.

  • Please start Hijackthis
  • Click the Open the Misc Tools section button
  • Click the Open Uninstall Manager... under System Tools

You will see a list of programs installed on your computer.
Please click the Save List... button and specify where you would like to save the list.
Once you click Save, the list will open in Notepad. Simply copy and paste the entire contents of Notepad in your next post.

Hi mummabear,

I would like a deeper look at your computer. Please perform the following...

Scan with RSIT

  • Please download Random's System Information Tool by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click RSIT.exe to run the tool
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it finishes, two logs will open...
    • log.txt will be opened maximized
    • info.txt will be opened minimized
  • Please post the contents of both logs in your next post.

Scan with GMER

Please download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here.
  • Double click the randomly named .exe file. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO

    [
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button and wait for it to finish
  • Once done click on the Save.. button at lower right, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" (include the quotes) or it will save as a .log file
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in reply
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Note: Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.

That's the log.txt

I had to run it twice because the first post was too long and I lost all the info. When I ran it the second time the info.txt didn't come up??

I will post the Gmer info once it's finished doing it's thing.

I have tried twice now to run gmr and both times it has aborted saying that it has encountered a problem and needs to close. This is the error signature

AppName: q1377kb5.exe AppVer: 1.0.15.15252 ModName: ntdll.dll

OK, hold off on GMER.

Navigate to c:\RSIT in Explorer (Right-click Start, click Explore) and you should find info.txt.

Your computer does have some serious issues.

Post the info.txt and I'll go through the logs and have further instructions.

Hello mummabear,

P2P Warning

You have the following P2P programs installed.

LimeWire
Vuze Azureus

Peer to Peer (P2P) programs are a very risky venture. I strongly suggest you avoid the use of them in the future as they are a conduit for malware. It is likely that P2P use contributed to the current situation.
