HJT log has new entries
My wife's computer has gotten very slow. I have ran many scans with nothing showing except Spybot showing "FRAUD.VIRUS REMOVER2009" for which it has shown several times on other scans?
I have noticed several new entries in the HJT log that previous scans did not
have. These are some 04's and 16's
Here is my log. Anything suspect or not needed?
Thank you for checking.

Need to add for more problems I thought were solved.
When my wife uses her pute and disables internet connection, it won't reconnect saying connection failed. Then she shuts down to clear but windows hangs at the
windows is shutting down window screen. So she hits the power button and comes
back up and can then go up on the internet with enabling connection. Then it starts all
over again. Have ran ever scan I know, ck disc, sfc, defrag, virus scans, spybot etc
and nothing wrong.
Have unplug cable motem, router and shut down and cleaned inside pute. We have 2
other putes plugged into router and they work fine. Have used different cables etc and
no difference.
Could this be a hardware or software problem, or infections. This started the day after
I updated AVG to 9.0 and 3 updates at MS.
Please ck my log as provided in the above post and then I can go from there.
Thanks { know you folks are busy and I will be patient}

Ok, please use the following settings and post the log when done along with a new HJT.

Please do a Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan using these settings:
  • · Open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    · Select the Update tab
    · Click Check for Updates
    · After the update have been completed, Select the Scanner tab.
    · Make sure the "Perform full scan" option is selected.
    · Then click on the Scan button.
    · If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button
    · The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
    · When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
    · Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.

Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • · Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
    · Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    · When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
    · The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
    · The log can also be found here:

    · C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

    · Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

There is a few things to get through. No rush, do them when you are ready and rested.

This started the day after I updated AVG to 9.0

1. Ok a couple of things, first you are running with only 512 MB of RAM. These days computers seem to like at least 1gb. They can run on the 512 but depending on what is running it can cause issues. You are using AVG as your Antivirus and I have found it can be quite a resource hog on computers with 512 or less RAM, so if it is the free one you might consider changing to Avira or Avast. Both are good and free. If you are interested in changing let me know and I will post the links for downloading.

2. I would recommend uninstalling Windows Defender, again a huge resource hog and not really needed. You can uninstall through add/remove programs.

3. While in add/remove programs also uninstall Viewpoint Media Player (Remove Only)

4. You must have had at one stage Symantec/Norton on your computer. There are remnants left over. Run the Norton Removal tool to get rid of them.
Please go to this -page- and select the product you have/had.
  • 1 Download the Norton Removal Tool.
Save the file to the Windows desktop.
2 On the Windows desktop, double-click the Norton Removal Tool icon.
    3 Follow the on-screen instructions.
Your computer may be restarted more than once, and you may be asked to repeat some steps after the computer restarts.

5. This next step is your choice. The below items I am getting you to fix with HJT are for programs that do not need to start up when you turn your computer on. Doing the below step WILL NOT UNINSTALL these programs ONLY stop them from running at startup. All will be available when you need them. The bonus is it will make your startup time a bit shorter

Open Hijack This and select Do a System Scan Only place a check next to the below lines if still present
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe ARM] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\AdobeARM.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [AdobeUpdater] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Updater5\AdobeUpdater.exe"

Once selected close all windows except HJT an click on Fix Checked

6. Update Java Runtime

You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 17.
  • Go to Java Site
  • Click to Download Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 17
  • In Platform box choose Windows.
  • Check the box to Accept License Agreement and click Continue.
  • Click on Windows Offline Installation, click on the link under it which says "jre-6u17-windows-i586.exe" and save the downloaded file to your desktop.
  • Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
  • Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 3 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE) listed below in the code box.
    Code:
    Java(TM) 6 Update 3

  • Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file with the java icon which will be at your desktop, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Reboot your computer

7. Download and Run ATF Cleaner
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.
Make sure that all browser windows are closed.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    Under Main choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser,To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

8. Kaspersky Online Scan
Do an online scan with >Kaspersky Online Scanner<
  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As...
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button
  • Please post this log in your next reply

Please reply with:-
  • Kaspersky report
  • New HJT log

Back again.
Had a busy day and have done some of the things you provided. Her computer is acting
up doing some strange things. I ran the Norton removal tool and hope I used the right
one as it's been years since I had uninstalled it.Fixed the HJT items and removed
Windows defender and Viewpoint media player.
Now for some strange reason when I open a folder up on her desktop the SEARCH pane
comes up instead of the contents of the folder. I have to right click and select OPEN to
bring up the contents of the folder. Never did this before and neither does my XP do that.
I'm running a SFC and chkdisc to see if they may correct it. Also have rebooted.I tried folder options but nothing helped. I will finish the other items and report back
Thanks again.
