Exclamation Blue & Black Desktop Virus
Hi,
I am a graphic design student currently attending college and I have come across a serious problem with my pc.

I have compaq presario c300 with an windows xp home media edition os.

Yesterday my notebook's screen flashed and restarted. When it began to load up there was a blue back ground wuith a black box indicating that my computer had acaught a virus and that several files were corrupted. Soon tehreafter I recieved numerous pop-ups and my compter began downloading programs on its own.

Also, a red X and muilt colored shield showed up in my bottom right hand coner of the start menu bar. I read the information and was prompted that I should download the software. I tried to go online and search to figure out the problem but everytime I tried I was sent to bogus websites.

As soon as my computer starting recieeving and downloading the software I immediately turned it off. When I turned it back on a privacy center menu appeard with my desktop not showing at all; with flashin apps indicating I had a license erroe security threat nad database update error.

I really don't have any other pc and I need this one for class. Is there anyone that can help? I would really appreicate it.
