infected computer
Dear Tech Guys,

I have no more errors. Thank you so so much. I could not have done it with out you. I do have a few more questions.

1. I have AVG as my security software and I am due to pay for another year soon. Is this the best security software for me? Additionally, why didn't it catch the virus? Can you recommend a better service?

2. Some how I have lost the ability to get into WORD and EXCEL. I have the icons but they don't open. I do have the original disc.

3. Finally, I have alot of items and programs that I have downloaded on your advice sitting on my desktop. Which one should I keep and which ones should I delete. The computer runs alot slower getting from one screen to another. I think this may be becouse of all the new stuff I downloaded.

You guys (gals too) are a life saver to us. Thank you.(My kids put the smiles on!)

Reinstall Office to fix the applications.

Look in the TSG Library of Knowledge for suggestions on Anti-Virus programs. I have used AVG but currently I use Microsoft Security Essentials. You may want to try several before you decide on one.

You should remove all of the tools I requested you to download and/or folders associated with them now. It is pointless to keep these tools around as they are updated so frequently that the tools can be outdated within a few days, sometimes within just hours.

  • Start OTS
  • Click the CleanUp button
    • OTS will download a small file from the Internet. If a security program or firewall warns you of this allow it to download.
    • OTS will delete any tools downloaded and files/folders created and then ask you to reboot so it can remove itself.
  • Click Yes.

Now you should Clean up your PC

It's a good idea to Flush your System Restore after removing malware and create a new restore point.
Turn off system restore, restart the machine and then turn it back on: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310405
