This morning I discovered I had unwittingly received the Vista Internet Security trojan and it was now active in my computer. After a bit of effort I was able to safely remove it using two of my three anti-malware programs (yes I like having a lot in case one skips something), but a residual problem still remains. When I go to most .exe files I am told "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel."


I then go and attempt to do this but it does not solve anything, regardless of what I do. I have tried to reinstall some programs, change default programs, file associations, and upgrade stuff after downgrading it. All to no avail, hurray for me. I would love to give you guys some screen shots but I cannot enter paint, and the only way I can even get onto the internet is through a backdoor I installed, which would not work on other programs.

I would hate to reformat because I think that might not help since reinstalling did not, but I am open to ideas and suggestions. As you can surmise I am running Vista with the latest updates.
