I agree. That file is very suspicious. Once it gets analyzed, we can dig deeper here.

Theb file appears to be a typical junk file droped by a rogue antivirus to detect

even though it isn't showing teh usual pointers I suspect TDL3 rootkit

Run tdss killer from http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses...?qid=208280684

post back with its log and we can go from there

I have moved this to malware to avoid the uneccessary hangers on posting unneeded advice

Hello and thank you so much for your help. I'm freaking out a little bit here because of Norton not being able to turn on and that I can't turn off the computer.

I ran the TDSSKiller.exe and it did not produce a log file.

This is what the screen says:

Scanning Services ....
Scanning Kernal Memory ....
Completed
Results:
Memory objects infected / cured / cured on reboot: 0/0/0
Registry objects infected / cured / cured on reboot: 0/0/0
File objects infected / cured / cured on reboot: 0/0/0

Press any key to continue . . .

And then it goes away.

I ran Spybot and it found Gamevance, which I deleted. I am going to uninstall and reinstall Norton now, unless you think I should do something different.

Thanks again

that looks fine so try to reinstall norton & see what happens

go here http://winhlp.com/node/10
and use the fix in option 1 Quick solution, report back if it found any DMA channels to reset & if the computer is faster

I went to the winhlp.com/node/10 and I see where it says Quick Solution, but I don't see where there is anything to do. The "click" next to Internet explorer is not active.
