I would very much appreciate some help with this issue.

I have McAfee internet protection installed as well as Win Patrol (scotty)
Today after running a scan, McAfee detected a trojan. It said to restart my PC in order for it to be removed which I did. I ran another scan and the trojan was not picked up. However, win patrol is not giving New Program Alerts on a regular basis, warning of the addition of a program start-up setting: C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Application Data\Ebbee\guly.exe

Not sure what that is but I am always pressing No so as not to allow this.

I have also noticed, since the trojan was detected, that Firefox will no longer run and gives a memory error on startup. Also, my system has slowed down.

Just a quick update as i've logged back in to post the above bump - I have got another McAfee alert warning of a tojan detected:

it says this is the trojan: FakeAlert-FakeSpy!env.a

I'm on my work PC now - just checked though my previous posts here when I was given help related to a similar problem. I was advised to run something called "Combofix". I'm wondering, should I run this again now to fix the problem I'm having?

So there are now two winpatrol alerts in quick succession, the original one and this one.

Delete any existing version of ComboFix you have sitting on your desktop

Please read and follow all these instructions very carefully

Download ComboFix from Here or Hereto your Desktop.

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop and run from the desktop and not any other folder on your computer**

1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

• Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus and anti-malware real-time protection and any script blocking components of them or your firewall before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results" or stop combofix running at all

I have followed your instructions as follows:

Downloaded combofix and saved to desktop
Disabled McAfee and WinPatrol
Closed all open windows
Run ComboFix

After running combofix, the screen stopped on "Attempting to create a new system restore point" and stayed there. I closed combofix window and ran it again... this time it said scanning for infected files.... but then said Access Denied twice and stopped there.

I've attached two screenshots of both runs of ComboFix.

Another update.

I decided to try once more to run combofix. This time it did start scanning and went through many stages (up tp 50 I think) saying stage completed etc... however during this, two error messages flashed on screen that I did not recognise (see attached screenshot.

Also - when combofix had finished running - there was no log / report file

Another thing - internet explorer just opened by itself and went to a random web page.

I am going to try combofix maybe once more before I go to bed.

Final Update for tonight

I ran Combofix for a 4th time. This time it said something like "Rootkit Activity detected" and rebooted my machine. On restart it ran through its scan (50 stages completed) and this time deleted some files and folders, and said "System file infected" and fixed. It then rebooted again and finally said "Preparing report log" but again, did not produce any report.

I am also still getting win patrol alerts and a new one which is attached as a screenshot

that is combofix being blocked by an antivirus or security tool

that is why we tell you to disable all antivirus or security tools including winpatrol & similar

delete that version of combofix from desktop & download a new copy from same link as before & run it again AFTER making sure ALL security tools are disabled ( turned off & prevented from starting up )
