How best to create a directory site
I would like to create a site along the lines of the following: and which will allow me the flexibilty of designing my own web pages using xhtml and css, whilst also including options such as allowing registered members to log-in and create their own listing and to add additional extras to their page after upgrading to a paid listing, which also means that it would be good if there were also some form of onboard payment processing, although I do know how to add Paypal pay-now buttons myself. Can anyone suggest a suitable open source script that is simple to set up and administer, as even though I am okay with the creation of standard webpages, I am a real woodenhead when it comes to understanding php, mysql, cgi, etc. and don't have a clue how to work with them. Any script will need to run on 123 reg (Linux) servers. Basically, what's the best way to create a web site, incorporating a links directory, with built in registration and payment options?

You probably want to go for a CMS system such as Joomla, Wordpress (not just a blog) or Drupal. There are many more. Most if not all have plug-ins to achieve the functionality that you require.
