ftp
ok, guys! I have a website with it's own registered domain. I am currently using a web hosting site that will not allow me ftp access. Here is the question: can I access my site to edit it without the host company? Can I remove it from the hosts and manage it myself? Please give me the answers in a way that I can understand!
Thanks
Debbie

How can they host your site and then not allow you access to upload/change files?! They're not charging you are they?

You certainly can change hosts or host it yourself but, because you're asking, I'd recommend just switching to a new host. Depending on what your currently have (space, needs, etc) some around here will be able to recommend some different hosts. But since they won't let you ftp in, not sure how you would get your pages from the current host to then move to the new one.
Once you have decided on a new host, you'll need to change your site's dns information so people will be able to get to the new one.

BTW: if you host your site on your own computer somtimes you'll run into probleums with your ISP so make sure. Usely your ISPwill give you some free space if you are regestered with them! If your look for a good host www.build2learn.com <--no ad's, free, and domain or sub-domain.

Ususally I've seen that they will provide you with an Upload form to add each file individually. Talk about fun.

There are a number of programs out there and for the lack of a better word will "Rip" your website and save all of the images and HTML files to your computer. From there you can edit them and use a new hosting company.
