Providing database access on a web page
I maintain a web site. I'd like to give visitors access to a simple database that they can query. Right now I have the data in an Excel spreadsheet, but I can convert to some other format. I don't really want to provide an interactive Excel page.

The data is relatively simple, with only three fields per record. I'd like the visitors to be able to query based on any one of the fields to find matching records.

I use Frontpage to maintain the site, so any tips on setting the database up so that I can use Frontpage's Database Wizard would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It's a fairly easy process if you are able to run .ASP pages on the server you are on. Convert your Excel spreadsheet to a Microsoft DB (.mdb).

Confirm that you are able to run .ASP pages first and that you can put an Access database on it.

Well, it turns out that my server does not support ASP. I can create and maintain a MySQL database via phpAdmin, and I have actually gotten as far as importing my data into such a database. However, I don't really know how to provide my website visitors with the capability of querying the database, as I don't know what type of code to write, or quite honestly, even where the database resides on the server. It doesn't seem to be in any of the folders/subfolders on my web site; the only way I can access it myself right now is through vDeck's interface to phpAdmin. That's not going to be an option for my site's visitors.

Any advice on where I might learn more about incorporating code into my web pages so that my site's visitors can access the database would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Very sorry, I have no knowledge of writing PHP code.

And, I just went thru the hassle of setting up a web-page on MySQL, Apache and postNuke. Gave that all up and went with Soopportal because it runs ASP.
