HTML questions
I am trying to create a website but have hit some basic stumbling blocks that I am hoping someone can help me with (I am new to html so bear with me please):

1) I am trying to create links to word documents attached to my site. When I eventually post the site, do I need to ftp my site with all the attachments or will the links be sufficient to link to my home pc where the documents reside?
How do I actually create these links?

2) I want to get some user feedback on the site, asking them questions and I want to receive their answers. How do I do this exactly?

My pc is using windows 2000. It is abit old and I need to get a new one soon. I want to make sure that my site will survive this move?

Thanks everybody!
John

Where are you hosting your site? On your own PC? I hope not.

If they are hosted on some other server, then you must upload (or FTP as you say) all the files (that you want others to access) to the server. You can't keep it in your machine.

For the second question, you need something more complex then plain HTML. You can use something like CGI or PHP. If you are hosting it on some server, see what readymade CGI scripts are provided there. You may be able to just customise them and use without too much trouble.

For one, back up your site frequently if you want it to "live"; two, linking to word documents is just like linking to html pages <a href="http://ilikebigbutts.com/sir-mix-alot.doc">My Booty Lov'n Document</a>
