I'm stumped over the weirdest thing...
I've been working on websites for myself, some frineds, and my brother for about 3 years. I am fluent in HTML, CSS 1, and even some JavaScript although I can change the code (once someone else writes it) with no problem at all.

Well...the simplest thing of all time has me sitting at my computer absolutely dumbfounded and I've now resorted to needing HELP! LOL.... here's the deal.

I've created a very small website for my brother and sent it to him so he could put it on his computer and we could discuss it (since my server is not up yet) and everything works fine. His site contains about maybe, 50 links in all. They are just the easiest things to create (links) and they all work beautifully. Well......sort of....

The ones that don't work are his media links for things like video, and power point (3 of them) and they are all located inside a "media" folder. Strangley enough, they work fine on my computer. I click on the links and they load and run smoothly. On HIS computer though, we can't get them to work at all. MAN.... All the folder names are the same as on my computer.....we've been over that many many times now.

My question is....why don't the media links work on his computer when every other link work like a charm? The files are windows media files, and he has windows media player on his computer (he listens to music on it daily). He also makes sure that the player is not in use when he clicks on the media files.....so what gives?

I'm at my wits end over this seemingly easy thing-a-ma-jing! Any suggestions? I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks a ton.....

Is he using the same browser (version and type) ?
Did you embed the media into a page, or have them launch an external player? Is he using XPSP2 (blocks alot of content including popups and activex, even blocks preloaded images by java)

Doubt its your error, most likey software on his side.

He doesn't have service pack 2. As for where the files are on his computer and mine...it shouldn't matter cause I use relative urls. (you know the kind that look like this ../bkgr/top-nav-bg.gif!)

All his images load work fine, and all other links within his site work fine. Just not the media files.

I have the media (video) loading in an external player. (Windows Media Player cause it's the .wmv format.)

I think the problem is on his side and it's software related. I'm also pretty sure it's not my fault, otherwise the media links would not work for me on my computer, but they do. Any ideas as to what I should get him to disable on his end?

Still thinking...

thanks......

Can he open the file without using a link? (open from source eg \yourwebsite\files\media\file.wmv)
If not, then there could be a codec or plugin missing for him.

Yes, we've tried opening the file without using a link and it works fine....both the video file AND the power point file...like I said....this one is weird and it's also a stumper....

Thanks for your attempt though, I do appreciate it.....

It's killing me...I NEED TO KNOW.......lol......*breathes slowly* ...lol....

You need to check all the links and check to see if all the files and folders are contained in one folder, Example bellow.

- C:/
....-web file
.........+movies
.........+pictures
.........index.html
.........pictures.html
+My Documents

Yes I have tried that too and it didn't work. I'm now convinced that there is something going on with some software on his computer. But I'm still stumped.

This one's definately weird. If I ever figure it out I'll post it here.

Thanks again.
