Question Dreamweaver MX & Lookups in my Database
Hey All, how are ya's?

Have an extremely frustrating problem here with Dreamweaver MX that I can't get my head around...

I have a suppliers page containing the name of a supplier, and their website. In the Database, I have 2 tables: 1 containing all the names of the suppliers (as they are also referenced from other tables) : tbl_Brands - and another containing the actual information: tbl_Suppliers.

Within tbl_Suppliers, I have setup a Lookup to retreive the name of the supplier, then in the website field, it's simply a web address.

The problem is this: Dreamweaver displays only the NUMBER relating to the ID of the suppliers that is in the lookup, not the name of the supplier tha is in the field within the database.

Does anyone here know of how to get around this problem short of nasty SQL statements? Is it possible to get DWMX to see the field with the name, and not retrieve the number? Or is it a problem with my relationships?

Any help from anyone would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Thanks,

DNE

Post back your SQL statement that builds your query. It sounds like you are not including all of the neccesary fields in your query.

Cheers for your reply Rockn - I managed to fluke it completely, and had it workign sweet as until something corrupted the database. From here, I went close to the brink of insanity trying to repeat my luck and rid my ASP page from all them numbers. I tried almost everything short of a pickaxe.

I've finally figured it out, and again - almost by chance but for anyone who cares, maybe has the same problem, my solution was simply to setup the lookup using a list box, then edit the query statement and have it so 2 of the fields that ARNT the ID fields go first, then the ID field goes after this....so the SQL looks like this:

SELECT tbl_Brands.Brand, tbl_Brands.Brand, tbl_Brands.BrandID
FROM tbl_Brands;

Dreamweaver reads it piece of cake, as text and not a friggin' number...

Why it worked I have no idea but I couldnt give a rats at the moment. Maybe one day I'll figure it out...

Thanks

It was because the <option> tags were not created correctly.

It should have read something like this:

<option value="<%= RS1("BrandID") %>"><%=RS1("Brand") %></option>

you had the brandID between the option tags instead of using it as a value for the option.
