Solved: New Webpage, New Look --- HELP!
My old website on GeoCities is dead, since I dont update it since it had poor qualities and was obviously built by a newbie. Now, when I look at some sites they have some kool layouts. Geocities used to look like this:

I want a spin-off of that. That looks GROSS. Time for some real HTML fun, like I see on some other sites---I need help. I want my page to look like this (eventually):

And plz, dont talk like I know a lot, explain everything you do, or you'll lose me.

One word "Frames" but Frames can be tricky without a good editor like Dreamweaver or something. A very simple way to keep a site looking clean is with CSS "Cacscading Style Shets" and tables. an example of a CSS table page http://www.ecocleancarpets.net

Please do not use frames unless you absolutely have to. They are considered very bad design for a number of reasons. CSS or basic HTML tables make great layout tools.

You should buy a book or two or look for tutorials online.

Frames are not good to use, and you will get rated very low by search engines becase spiders don't like to crawl frames.

A simple CSS layout is all that's needed. You don't even need tables.

§onic €hao, Geocities doesn't support Php-Nuke unfortunately. What you would need is a real web site that supports linux software and those can be rather cheap per month.

Now, there are many recommendations out there and all have good points and bad points but the bottom line is you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! So free is out when it comes to this. Once you get past this thought, then move forward and we can help you put together a php nuke site. They are relatively easy compared to MOST Content Management Systems.

And yes, ONCE you get it up and running, it's fun to play with and fairly easy to work with. There are LOTS of support sites out there and I have most of them bookmarked. The people who are on most of the sites are friendly and helpful. I can't say that about the guy who WROTE the software, but he is the exception to the rule.

First, decide if you want a real host and then go for it. Liz

Just use this kind of structure on the page:

<body>
<table>
<tr>
<td>Menu</td>
<td>Banner / Content / Footer</td>
</tr>
</table>
</body>

I learned CSS, and now I understand. I dont use cellpadding, border and cellspacing anymore, but I keep it clean and do some things in % and px. Such as:

<table width="80%">

And the <tr> and <td> . I suppose my CSS works to (at least I hope it does. ).

You really shouldn't use tables to layout a site, tables are for data...

CSS positioning of spans/divs is how you should layout content.
