Redirect to Website
I make fairly simple web pages with Microsoft Frontpage but I am soon going to be over the server space I have available. I am looking for a script to upload onto the server space, to redirect to my computer where I will host the website using gene6 ftp server.

Before I even worry about some of the settings for the server, I would just like to get the right script, if possilbe, using the following to make it more simple for me:

Represent IP Address with - xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Index file location - C:\website\index.htm(do i need the full path or is some of that taken care of with the server?)
Refresh to new location as quickly as possible.

And Finally, I dont know much about code which is why I use frontpage, but do I just copy the script and paste it in the code sections on Frontpage between <body> and </body>?

Thanks.

You can also do redirects in cpanel I think.

How would you go about doing that?

You could use this tag for refresh by adding it to <head> in frontpage.
Code:
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=http://xx.xxx.xx.xx">
But that isn't foolproof and won't work for some browsers/users.

If this is an Apache server, you could create a file called .htaccess and do a redirect there (this is what a cPanel redirect would do, but we don't know if you have cPanel or not)
Code:
Redirect /directory/file.html http://xx.xxx.xx.xx/file.html
If your webhost supports PHP, you could create a PHP script with this in it:
PHP Code:
<?
header
('Location: http://xx.xxx.xx.xx/file.html');
?>

First check in your ftp if you have a directory (or sometimes a shortcut to a directory) called www.

There may be an htaccess file in there, infact there should be, it is used by apache.

First you need to make sure its an Apache server. You can do that by asking your webhost or checking their website.

Then you need to create a file called .htaccess (there probably isn't one there yet, otherwise, edit the existing one) and put the Redirect code in it.

Brendan, I thought .htaccess is always there if it is an apache server?

.htaccess is optional.
It won't be there unless you made one (or cpanel made one for you)

Who said anything about Windows? This is most likely a Linux server.
