Arrow Solved: ".JPG" Or ".jpg"
I have two folders that both contain the same images, but in different sizes.

One of the folders has all of the images at 450PX (width) and the other folder has the images at 80PX (width).

For some reason, the large-image folder has all of the images with the ".JPG" extension (notice the caps), while the small-image folder has all of the images with the ".jpg" extension.

When these are put on a server, they are not recognised unless the case is right in the code. This is a pain.

Does anyone know why this has happened, and how to fix it?

What kind of server application is case sensitive with regards to file extensions? I've not heard of that before. Some apps will create extensions in all caps, so I doubt it has anything to do with the size of the pictures. It's the app that created them.

You could run a batch rename replacing .JPG with .jpg.

Is this an Apache server?
You might need to set the MIME Type for .JPG so the browser knows its an image.

Yes, it is an Apache server.

How can I change the MIME types like you suggest?

You could just open them in Photoshop, then resaving and making sure the "make extension lowercase" checkbox is checked.

Is it just me or does CS2 ignore that option? It seems to randomly save files with uppercase extensions whether I tell it to or not...

I'm using Adobe PhotoShop CS2, aswell. I haven't changed any options, and it didn't change the extensions for the smaller images...so it's a puzzle to me.

I heard CS2 was buggy, if you guys want to use CS, then get the CS1 (just called "CS")
Or you can get an entirly different version of Photoshop, it doesn't have to be CS, they all have that option

You could create a file named .htaccess and put this line in it (or add this line to the end, if you already have .htaccess)

AddType image/jpeg .jpeg .jpg .jpe .JPG

And that will stop the problem I described, will it?

If you have a bunch of files you want to fix ... Many "file renamers" will change the case of the file extension.

This one isn't free, but it's my favorite.

I think Photo Mechanic will do the job for me. I'll give it a shot.

Thanks for the assistance, all!

Hi,

if you use an ftp app such as WS_FTP, AceFTP or AutoFtpPro, then you can rename the uploaded files by highlighting each file and clicking the Rename button.

That's how I do it, if I get the ext wrong anyway..

Cheers
