Solved: User Permissions in php.
This is a stupid question I know.

I have just loaded osCommerce into a server I have set up in Win XP, using Wamp5. Just as localhost.

This is the message I cannot get my head around:

Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: c:/wamp/www/ada_serverside_trial/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file

Where do I actually change the user permissions for the configure file.

I have looked and looked in configure, admin/configure, etc and I cannot find where to do this.

I am brand new at this.

I have been able to find the changes for Unix & Linux, but nothing for windows.

I just know it is going to be a simple thing, but it is bugging me.

Thanks all.

You can just write the directory with php, and set the chmod that way.

Hi php guy.

Thanks for the quick answer.

Unfortunately, you will have to walk me through it a little more.

You see, I know absolutely nothing about php & mySQL yet, and I am going into the learning curve with osCommerce.

Are we talking about alterations to the actual php files or the database.

Sorry this sounds so stupid. I am about as useful as a screen door in a submarine when it comes to serverside languages.

I have been able to make quite a bit of progress (with the help of a copy of the files for total write offs.

Just that this message is bugging me being on the top of the browser all the time. And I guess I am going to have to learn it sooner or later.

Thanks again mate.

Oh, using MS, one of MS's server's big flaws or downfalls is permisions. Unlike linux, you can't set them with chmod. If it is localhost, then I think you go into 'tools>folder options...' in the directory you want to write to and change the permisions that way, or you can right click on the file itself that you would like to change and the permisions that way.

Thanks phpguy.

I believe the right click option is also only for UNIX & Linux.

I read that you can change it in the catalog/configure.php file, but I cannot for the life of me see where.

I might have to just leave it up there for the time being.

If the site ever makes it into the real world, it will end up on a Unix server and it can be changed then.

Will keep looking around and see what I come up with.

Thanks for all the help.

If I do find the way to do this, I'll let you know.

Thanks again.

Skibum.

Hmm, maybe I should of asked what you are trying to do first?

This isn't a normal php bad permisions error, infact it looks like its complaining about too much permisions. Is this an error from the osCommerce?

Ok, this might hit the spot...
Quote:
If you're using Windows as your test server and you get this error... just do the following:

Right click on 'includes/configure.php'

Select 'Properties' (A new box will appear...)

Select/Tick 'Read-only'

Click 'Ok'

(Don't forget to do this for both your 'catalog' and 'admin' directories)

Magic.

That has worked a treat.

I knew it would be something simple in the end. I guess I will have to change it around if I want to work inside these files, but that is no big deal.

Back to my pitiful hacking attempts.

Thanks so much.
