Unhappy Why is access to website locked when emailing?
I have written a PHP program that emails newsletters to a 7000 member mailing list.

When the mailing process is on-going (using PHP's mail() function looping through a MySQL database of 7000 emails) I cannot access the website in other browser windows. It seems that browser access to other PHP programs that I use on the website -- are locked off, until the emailing is complete.

Strange. I would think that the emailing process is just another task. And that I could run other tasks while that one is ongoing.

Any clues, guesses, ideas why that might be happening?

And yes, as a PHP program, the window in which the mailing is happening, is blank (or at least stops displaying anything) until the mailing is complete -- which is expected.

But why wouldn't other browser windows be able to access other (or the same) programs on the same website? Something to do with access to the MySQL database, maybe?

Thanks

....Vidya

What's your CPU at when you're processing the 7000 emails?

What are you running for a webserver (IIS or Apache)?

What version of php are you running?

Well, since the program is running on a webserver, I don't understand the first question about my CPU?

The webserver is FreeBSD 4.10

PHP Version 4.4.0

And any other questions may be answered at:

I was actually looking for some ideas about ways to proceed,
that I could investigate, and try different things. Such suggestions
aren't really dependent upon the exact server and PHP version,
I would think.

But if I'm wrong, then hey! I'm wrong.

I sure would appreciate some leads I could follow.

Thanks
