How to make the background of an Image transparent
Ok i saw this really cool website

http://www.csszengarden.com/?cssfile=040/040.css

Ok for the boxes he has an image for the tops and bottoms. But the background of the images is transparent because you can see the background behind that.
How do you do this using CSS or HTML?

That looks like they have a background on the top and the bottom of the boxes that is simple a gif(or some other image) with a slash that is transparent.

Transparency can also be set with css, but not supported by all browsers.

Hi djcool,

As php Guy mentioned, not all browsers support images set as transparent in CSS.

It is much better if you have your images already transparent before they are included in your images file.

This can be done with various image editors, such as Photoshop, Paint Shop Poro, Image Ready, etc.

Whatever program you use, the files will have to be saved as a GIF, or PNG.

If you want to edit the images in an image editing program, let us know what you have available and we will help you.

Perhaps attach the image or pm it to me and we can help.

Yep, browser support for CSS transparency is pretty low. It shouldn't be used until more people upgrade browsers. If you need transparency, use the way skibum35 explained.

What most sites do that need a transparent bg is make a 1x1 transparent image, then repeat it as a bg on a cell or div. If you re unable to make one your own, you can google for a little tutorial on how to make one, and some will have one already made that you can just save from there.
