Question Looking for a FREE webhost... a few questions?
I will be looking to start my own webpage. Nothing fancy, just something I can use with my dial-up connection that hopefully has some kind of WYSIWYG editor or something simple and easy.

I notice some of the so called FREE webhost will keep talking about having a DOMAIN. And... there is usually a charge associated with that.

What do they mean by the word DOMAIN. Why can't I just keep my page on their site... ie FORTUNECITY, WEBSPAWNER etc... ? What is this domain thing all about.

That being said, can you reccomend a good FREE webhost without any of these "hidden" costs?

Thanks in advance

DAVID

Why don't you try "Atspace.com", they probable have what you need...
domain would be a "yourname.com or yourname.org,.. etc" they do have sub-domains "yourname.atspace.com, etc" so as easy to find your webpage, and its all free..

A domain would be like www.david.com or whatever name you choose. There is a yearly cost to that. This name would point to your website no matter where it is hosted so you could move from host to host but the name would remain the same.

If you just want to host a personal site you can try http://www.50megs.com/ so your web address would be something like www.50mgs.com/david.

I've used 50mgs before and they didnt' require anything up front but they do put an ad on your web page. Finding a free one without an ad is almost impossible....but some people say they are out there.

Good luck and post your site so we can see it when your done

oh god i can only possibly barely remember a free web hosting providor that shouldnt forces ads onto your site to keep it free. i think it had something to do with freewebparking.com or something. check some magazines (involving the internet) that may give you some information like that. im not sure if this is in all contries, but netguide may have it, and if your in new zealand, even consumer magazine.
