Frontpage index.php as home page
Frontpage index.php as home page

with index.php as home, reports show all files unlinked. When I name the file index.htm, links are fine. how do I get frontpage to recognize a php-file as home? Thanks.

Never tried it before, but, just for the heck of it, I went into Frontpage 2002, saved a file as index.php, right-clicked on the file in the folder display, and tried to set it as a the home page as you would with any other Frontpage file. It forces a change on the file extension.

This comes down to simply choosing the right tools for the job. You can use metric tools on an American-made car (and vice versa), but it's not the best idea and they won't fit right. By the same token, Frontpage is made by Microsoft. Microsoft supports ASP and ASP.NET which are generally found on Windows servers. The preferred database engine there (not surprisingly) is Microsoft Access. PHP and MySQL are direct competitors of the entire Microsoft environment. Yes, it is possible to make it all work together, but I wouldn't leave it unattended for any length of time.

If your dong high-end PHP development, then get a PHP-specific editor like Zend. However, for most standard PHP pages, use Macromedia Dreamweaver. It has its own problems with PHP and its preferred framework is Coldfusion, but it's far more tolerant of competing technologies.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did try default.php to no avail. I am reluctant to redirect because I think the search engines don't like it.
