Wanted: Document management sys on web

Hi.
I'm after something which allows users not on an intranet to access files left by one another on the web. I found something called Owl at sourceforge.net but the installation files isn't a filetype I'm familiar with so not sure what to do with it. Also, the Owl documentation .pdfs won't open in Adobe Reader as it says they may be corrupt or the wrong file type.

Does anyone know anything about Owl or recommend another system?
