I Need Help Publishing To Web
Hi, I recently purchased a web site just to put family pictures on, from Sevaa. I have tried to publish pictures using Front Page and now am trying to use NVU. I read about NVU on this forum. I have been trying to send pictures for almost a month now and can not get them to appear on my web. I get error "530 Authentication Failed" from NVU.
I am an idiot and really need help. Please!
Thanks, Darlene

I fixed my problem. Thanks Southernlady for your help. I have registered to your site now.

What is NVU? I've been around html and web publishing a long time and that one is a new one to me.

Are you using an FTP program to upload your photos? If so, which one? If not, what setup are you using? Liz

Hi,
Thank you for responding to my plea for help. I read about NVU on this site. It is a Free web building site. I finally got NVU to publish all files last night but when I check my web, it has not changed. I could not get Front Page to do this. I truly do not know much about this kind of stuff. FTP? I just type in my web address on that line. Do I need to download something special for that? My 1st problem was that NVU would not publish my files but now, I guess, my problem is that my web site will not display the changes.
Thank You For ANY help you can give me,
Darlene

Nvu is based on the Gecko layout engine.
It's free to use.
Similar to dreamweaver.
http://www.nvu.com/
I downloaded it a while ago to try out, I still have not opened it
Someday I'll get around to playing with it, I'm just adicted to Crimson Editor

I use 1st Page 2000 (Hardcore version) and Notepad primarily. I've also discovered Alleycode recently.

Thanks for the link to Nvu, namenotfound.

Can you tell us how you fixed it for the others who may read this thread?

And glad you came over to my site. Liz

I couldn't get the 1st page site to load when I tried. However I did download Alleycode and it's pretty cool. I save time because the doctype is already added for me

I just downloaded First Page 2006 and once I got it set up and got my hardcore user mode back, I like it better than the old one. There is another one I use for sql, php, and other files called PHP Designer 2006 that is FREE to home AND commercial users. They have a html editor as well but I've never used it. Liz

I tried PHP Designer once and hated it.

I think it's the coloring they use in their syntax or something.

But I used the 2005 version, maybe they improved it?

It's the only thing I found that works WELL for making sql files. That's why I keep it around. And why I recommend it. Liz

I never tried it for SQL
I don't even know the correct SQL syntax, that's why working with Databases scares me

I only used it to make PHP scripts.

*****

I just tried to make a CSS file with that Alleycode, it treats it like plain text. No colorization on CSS. It's works fine with HTML, XHTML, PHP. I wonder why it doesn't handle CSS well

Oh, I never made a sql file from scratch either but sometimes I had to redo one and using PHP Designer works there. LOL. Liz

Unhappy Can Not Publish to Web Site
Hi,
I thought my problem publishing to my web site had been resolved. Silly me. I can NOT publish from NVU to my web site at Sevaa. I think my problem might be that I am not putting in the http: and ftp: correct address. Goodness knows I have tried. Do I need to download some software before I can use FTP? I think I will put my hair out!

Darlene, what web site at Sevaa? Can you give us a url? That might help. And have you been able to get an index.html file up yet?

I usually start with a very basic one to see if I can load one. Something like this:
HTML Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>The Ramsey Page</title> </head> <body>
This is my web site. Check back to see if I have something later. Liz
</body> </html>
As far as an FTP client, if you are using a standard hosting company, not a free one that limits your connection, then one of these should work well:

SmartFTP
Filezilla
Coreftp
AceFTP Freeware
CoffeeCup Free FTP
SmartFTP

You should have been given the hosting address, the user name and password to get into your ftp site by the hosting company.

Liz
