Good place to host a site?
i've been making websites for random bands/photographers for a while now. lately, i've been wanting to actually get paid, instead of just doing stuff for my friends.

all these friends have gotten rid of their websites now though, so i'm going to make my own "sample" site, that i can send to future clients.

my question is this:
where should i set up this website? i'll pay for a domain and web space if i have to, i'd just rather not. and i'd also like to stay away from stuff like geocities.

any ideas?

I'm basically a noob to all of this but here is a site I did for a friend on Freewebs, if you'd like to see how their sites look. Not too bad as far as ad requirements. Just the little bar at the bottom.

There are lots of websites which offer freespace to you, and one is www.netfirms.com but problem with these sites , they run ads on the top and also limit the file size. And if you are using frames/iframes in a site then several ads on the page will run

So, you have to decide want a free server or paid, if you looking for paid server they there are many choices.

www.freewebsitehost.net

The best place you will find for free hosting. Note that you will get more space and bandwidth with a paid host though.

As i said, no free lunches in this world. Freewebhost also shows ads on your website, and may be some filesize limitation. Open the account and you will know soon.

biker 1000MB bandwidth and only 80 MB storage. Strange.

flyskimma, if you are related to animation or filmmaking then i can tell you the server but looks you r not. So, buy the service for approx 5$ per month.

What kind of internet connection do you have for your hosting company, ~Biker~?? Fibre, T1/T3, or is this a "basement" type hosting thing off your DSL connection lol ? I agree with ashras99, a terabyte of bandwidth, but only 80MB of storage? That's a lot of traffic!

Anyway, back to the original question. I don't think I would get a free site if you're trying to sell your services to people. The ads would make you look unprofessional. If you want any kind of database interaction for people to register or sign up for your service, you're not going to get it from a free site. You can get cheap hosts for like $5/month from godaddy or webhost4life or 1and1, but those sites don't have stellar reputations (esp. in regards to support)--what do you expect for $5?

Your ISP or school(if you're in school) will probably set you up with a small account for free with no adds since you're paying them so much money anyway every month. Just look around on your ISP's website, you won't get any cool features with them either, but it's free and it'll work with regular html pages and there won't be adds.

And those users related to animation and filmmaking, can get the freewebspace from cgarena.com. But you have to be active on the forums.
