Solved: The IE ActiveX Update; Is there a way around it?
Is there a way around the kinda new activeX update for IE? A way that doesn't require you to "click to activate and use this control". If there is, I would love to know.

Thanks.

Are you trying to disable it in your browser or stop it from appearing on your website?

I'm trying to stop it from appearing on my website. I use Firefox, so I don't get to see it, but I know there are others that use IE, so that's unfair to them.

Firefox doesn't support ActiveX at all and you can't change the user's IE preferences-- only way to get rid of it is to remove the ActiveX control from your site.

Does that mean I won't be able to use Flash on my site? And do you know how I can remove the ActiveX control from my site?

No no, check out this link, it's my form. It's made from flash, in IE it will ask you to "Click to activate" I want to know if it is possible to remove that, and how it can be done.

I know I don't have to make it flash for a form. I've used PHP before too, and it workes fine. But it's just a matter of how to get rid of it, so I can use be able to use this for my other flash sites.

Oh really? I thought there was a way, maybe through JavaScript or something similar.

Quote:
I found an easier workaround for the Internet Explorer issue that affects embedded Coffeecup software as well as all flash, .pdf and media files that use the <embed> tag. It requires you to upload one javascript file onto your server where your web site is and to add one line of code into your webpage between the <head> tags on each page you're using CC software. This seems to work for most Coffeecup software but doesn't work for the Flash Form maker. I assume this has something to do with the XML file and how that is utilized. Trying this procedure with Forms, gives a "Can not locate the XML file" message.

I did have a glitch when first testing it though. I use Frontpage to design my web pages. If I just uploaded the javascript file onto my server and added the script line on my html page, it didn't work, however if I removed the CC apps, re-saved my web page and then added the script line, saved the page again and then re-added the CC apps, it worked fine. This might just be a Frontpage thing, I don't know. When done, I tested in IE version 6 with the patch installed and also Firefox and Netscape. No problems at all. I don't have Opera or IE version 7 Beta so I couldn't test those.

I don't want to put the javascript file and code in this post because I don't know how the CC staff would feel about that but if anyone wants the info, I'd be happy to send it to you. Maybe Scott or someone at CC would rather I send it to them so they can test it out and then they could make it available?

So in a nutshell, I don't have to stop using most of my beloved CC software!

Rob
How come other websites containing flash do not pose this warning message in IE? I'm sure they found a way around it!

Thanks for all your help!

Ah I thought you were talking about the yellow bar at the top of the screen asking you to run the control. There is a javascript workaround for the warning that asks you to click the control before it will play.
