Creating a web server, help please
I have my first webserver created with IIS, and i have my website working fine, i can get to it through my http://localhost/, however i have Qwest dsl with a 701WG. I have found out through some forums that that modem has it's own web interface, so i have tried changing my port forwarding to a different port (8080, and 88) and then in my IIS, changing it on that as well. But i still can't connect. If anyone has advice i would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Kenny

You need to manually append the port to the URL to access it. Web browsers always use port 80 unless otherwise told to use another port.

On the router disable the web admin interface and port forward your internal IP address to the routers WAN interface on port 80. You need to port forward regardless.

i have looked around in my modem settings, do you have any idea how or where the option to turn the web admin off would be?

If it is an Actiontec modem you don't need to disable the web admin interface unless it is enabled for outside access. First off set your PC you will be using as a server witha static LAN IP address.
Go to the main page for the router config, click setup/configuration > advanced settings > begin advanced settings > port forwarding and enter 80 in both boxes for IP port range, protocol is TCP/IP and the IP address is the one your PC is set to. Click Add and it should show in the list below. When you are done click the Save and Restart link in the lower left.

I have added my port forwarding for port 80, and i also tried port 88 (typing in mydnsname.com:88) and with the port 80 just typing in my dns name. it just shows me page cannot be displayed. My DNS name is http://sabinoffargo.serveftp.com (if that helps at all)

Are you using something like DynDNS service? Does your router have a static IP address? Did you do a save and restart after making your changes? Post some screenshots of your router settings. Have you tried it from the outside with an IP address?

Looks like sabinoffargo is using a Dynamic DNS service and it seems to be working. Just checked www.serveftp.com and it redirects to http://www.no-ip.com/

Just ran a tracert for sabinoffargo.serveftp.com and it resolved to 71.213.98.175. Info for the last hop was:

18 150 ms 106 ms 101 ms 71-213-98-175.slkc.qwest.net [71.213.98.175]

Trace complete.

sabinoffargo,

Are you running any type of application on your computer that contacts no-ip.com to keep it updated on your current IP address?

Ya, currently i am at work so i can remote desktop to make internal settings, and access the site out of the network here at work. I run a program called no-ip so i get a static DNS name and a plugin for my pc that updates every hour incase my ip address changes during the day.

Again, thank you so much for your time on my problem.

The IP address of your PC should be static ALWAYS, it is the IP address of your WAN interface that the dynamic DNS service needs to look at. If your WAN interface has a static IP address you don't need the serviec at all. In the third image you posted go to the WAN IP address and see if it matches the 71.213.98.175 posted above, if it doesn't your dynamic DNS service isn't doing it's job.

Right, my computer is setup for a static IP, all of my three computers are so they don't change on me. And i just checked my WAN settings and it does show 71.213.98.175 as the IP address

Maybe your ISP is the problem. Do they allow hosting your own web server?

Ask if it is within their TOS to host your own web server and if they block that ability.
