can't get my website to be seen publicly using ftp "filezilla"
I'm trying to publish a friends website. I downloaded Filezilla and uploaded the webpages. Now I can't view it without asking me for password. I need the site to be viewed by all. I think I looked through all the settings and can not figiure out what I'm doing wrong. I think it a simple problem that I'm over looking.

Is the whole site password protected?
If you see a .htaccess file in the ftp, edit it to remove the password protection, or delete the file all together.

I couldn't find any password protection, .htaccess file anywhere in the progam. Is there anything I can do to turn off passwords? I made changes to the site through the ftp program, and now it's one big mess. I can't view the site without typing in a password. Then once I get into the site it comes up in a separate window, and I can only view it as files.

It sounds like you do not have the default document set on the site. Call the ISP and tell him/her the name of your home page. By default it is usually index.html ,but your web host hay have a different one set.

Sounds like you are trying to access the website by typing the ftp address into your browser. You should be using the URL of the website (usually begins with http:// )

I'm a moron,... I figured it out. I put ftp:// at the begining. All I had to do was leave it www. Funny thing is I was never able to connect using http:// at the begining. Any way I think this issue is resolved.
Thanks everyone for your help.
