.edu domains
I have been asked by a youth organization to create a website. The program's name is already registered as a .com, .net, and a .org. The organization runs many programs, including a school. I was wondering if anyone knew how to apply for a .edu domain.

Thanks

[edit]
I found that I can apply here
www.educause.edu/edudomain/

Can anyone else find another place to register them? $40/yr is a lot for a nonprofit.

Does the organization meet the requirements for an .edu? If not, save yourself the trouble of searching for registrars.

"To obtain an Internet name in the .edu domain, your institution must be a postsecondary institution that is institutionally accredited by an agency on the U.S. Department of Education's list of Nationally Recognized Accrediting Agencies."

Basically, the organization must be a school where students can go to after they finish high school and must be an accredited school according to the USDE NRAA. If you don't meet those requirements you will not be able to get an .edu domain name.

Edit: The only place I found to register an .edu domain was EduCause.

The whole organization is religion based, and the school is considered the Jewish High School. It is 3 days a week for several hours. Students can receive high school and college credits, so I would assume that it would pass...does anyone think it wouldn't?

"The School of Advanced Jewish Studies (SAJS) is our premier, comprehensive five-year supplemental school for young adults in grades 8 to 12. Serving 200 students yearly with a dynamic and contemporary Hebrew and Judaic curriculum, SAJS nurtures Jewish spirit, commitment and mind. Creative courses of study include Jewish arts and culture, music, Torah and Talmud, history and ethics, literature and life cycle events."
-from their current site

If not, I could always alter their name slightly, as the enveloping program is very new. The school is atleast 50 years old.

If it is an accredited postsecondary school according to an agency that is recognized by the US Dept. of Ed., then you should be able to get a .edu domain. Otherwise, the organization will have to see what they can do to become accredited. The college I just graduated from had their accreditation review and the process took a few days, tours, department reviews, and many, many interviews with the accreditation committee, staff members, and students. It would be really cool to see this organization go through the process (if they haven't already)! I'm not all to familiar with the workings of it all. Check out http://www.educause.edu/edudomain/eligibility.asp for the .edu domain eligibility requirements

So much work for a domain! (Then again, try to find the requirements to get the .int domain, haha!)

It's for international governmental organizations. One of the requirements it to have an internationaly treaty between two governments.
