MySQL-blogging question
I have 2 MySQL databases (my limit) on my domain. The second one is one I just set up for a blog (using WordPress, if that helps answer the question). I'd like to test another blog installation (TextPattern) that I think might be easier for my level of expertise. Question is:

Can I use the same MySQL database for both blogs, or do I need a separate one for TextPattern? TextPattern allows for multiple blogs by assigning table prefixes, so I'm thinking mabe it could keep itself separate from WordPress this way, i.e. if I gave the TP a prefix to use. But I don't know the deeper questions about whether MySQL or databases in general work this way.

Obviously, I'd like not to have to delete the first blog in order to try out thte second one temporarily.
Tnx.

They cannot coexist in 1 database. You will need a free database. Why host are you using that you are allowed only 2 databases?

Yes it'll work, just do a table prefix in TextPattern. WordPress has a default prefix of wp_ I think.

I'm using IXWebhosting's bottom-end plan; I could upgrade and get more databases.

On the strength of Brendandonhu's confirmation of my own suspicions, I'll give it a try. The worst that will happen is losing a few posts in WP's database if I have to delete and start all over. Thanks to both of you.

I have multiple apllications running from the same datbase, as long as the tables are named differently I don't see what the isuue would be. Unless there is a technical reason I'm unaware of the only need for addtional databases is if you had multiple people accessing them and you wanted to control who had access to what. I guess security would be another reason.... If an unauthorized person gained access to one they still wouldn't have access to the others.

I thought that WordPress uses multiple tables as it it.
