Got Flash?

You need Adobe's (formerly Macromedia's) Flash application... At $700, its not cheap.

Adobe Flash (that just doesn't sound right! ) is the best way to go, but there are other applications out there that can create flash documents, but I'm not sure if they have full support for editing anything made in Flash. (FYI - if all you have is an SWF file, than you might be out of luck if the file is protected so that you can't edit it. )

Otherwise, you can download a 30 day trial on Adobe's website, provided that you can get what you want to do done in 30 days.

Flash 8 Pro
Thanks people but I have all the apps like flash 8 Pro , photoshop cs2 and dreamweaver but sadly I just dont get how to use flash to alter an existing template.
It seems that there are many talented people out there but I am not having any success finding someone to help me customise this particular template.
I feel as if I could personalise this one then I would be pretty goos at managing future projects.
Cheers
Sherry

If you're not sure how to do what you want, I would recommend doing a couple of the help file tutorials to get started. If you get stuck, just look it up in the help system. You'll pretty much find the answer to whatever you want to do.

Otherwise I might be able to provide a bit more descriptive help if I knew exactly what you want to change.

Hopefully it's the FLA file - can you even edit a SWF?

I guess this explains it:
Quote:
It is not possible to turn a swf back into a fla. There are tools that can
aid in the salvage of symbols etc, but none that can reverse the conversion
entirely. I've not needed them myself, but there are such tools available
here:

[Removed URL because I'm not sure if it would go against the forum rules...]

Perhaps it goes without saying in your case but, I will mention it with the
posting anyway--these should only be used to retrieve your own work(the
best practice of course, is to archive your fla). -Tom Unger
But I think that the company/designer that you got the template from should have given you an FLA file - otherwise there would be no way to specify your links, update the website, etc.

You can reimport a swf into flash, but it loses all actionscript and symbols....it breaks each frame into one big chunk of vectors

Thank you

I will heed your advice re-help tutorials and give some a go.
I have never used flash before but as I am attempting to develop a website or two then I had better get a handle on flash.
I am happy to forward the template to you so we could both work on it together but as it is so large (fla file is nearly 6 megs) I would not know how to go about doing so

Appologies if I double posted but my first post received no response

As stated previously, I do have all the apps but lack the prowess to use them at this level.

The template is complete and anyone wishing to see it - then check out template 10556 from at template monster or I am open to suggestions on how I can make it available to others for the purposes of helping me out.

Told ya's I was new to all this stuff

I can be contacted direct through yahoo id ohbeonetwo
Thanks for the interest thus far.

If you are completely new and you don't now much (motion tweening, how to put an .swf into HTML...) I would reccomend going to W3 School's Flash Tutorial.

More tutorials:

I've also found that Adobe has some great tutorials directly in the Help file. BTW, we might be able to help you step by step, but to make it easy (and so you can learn in the future), it would probably be best if you just learned.
