Need software to create a password for a paying website I am creating. I am creating a website that clients will have to pay in order to access.
Thank you.

There are two (or three) ways to do this.

1. If you're going to have just a few members, then you could use a .htaccess:

Are you running Apache? If so than use this tool:
http://www.tools.dynamicdrive.com/password/

And simply upload the required files as it says.
If you want to learn how to do it by hand or what's going on read this:
http://www.ilovejackdaniels.com/apac...th-htaccess/2/

In your case, you would just create another user/password entry for each subscriber/user, or write a script to do it for you.

2. Use a login script/page/system, which would be much better and much more versatile:
This is probably the best way, because it will look and run a lot better than the .htaccess login.
a. Write or use an independant login system.
You could either write or get an independent login script. I'm not sure how much experience you have in PHP or ASP, but you should be able to find some kind of login system at hotscripts.com. Note that you'll probably need a database to make it work.
b. Use a CMS that already has a login system built in, such as Drupal or Mambo.
This would probably be the best option, because the whole system is already written for you. All you have to do is install it and set up the users and permissions, and probably customize it a bit or install a module to add a payment system.
Take your pick.

Hello Erik,
I am very new to the computer. I have a Dell Dimension 2400 computer. I really did not understand what you were talking about. What is the cost of getting a password? I hope to have many members. I have no experience in PHP or ASP or what this means. I already have a website set up. My friend says I need software so people veiwing my website need to pay. How much does it cost to install a module to add a payment system?
This will be a website with picture of me ( no nudity ). I need to have members pay to access my pictures.
Thanks,
Patty

It won't cost anything to create a payment system, unless you buy a script or hire someone to install it/write it for you.

You don't "need" anything. You can allow people to view it for free if you want to. If you want my opinion, I would just skip the payment system altogether. No offense, but I don't think anyone would want to pay anything for a couple pictures of someone.

PHP and ASP are both web programming languages.

If you still want a payment system, and you aren't skilled at web design/programming, then I would recommend either using a system like Drupal (you would need to transfer what you've got over to them), or doing the .htaccess.

For Drupal, go here: www.drupal.org
For the .htaccess, go here: http://www.tools.dynamicdrive.com/password/

Hopefully that will clarify things a bit.

My daughter want to set up a website that shows her in bathing suits. Her friend says he can set up the website with all the pictures. She wants to have this website set up as a paying website. If people want to see the pictures they would have to pay to access them.
Her website friend says you need special software to set up these paying members. How do you obtain this type of software? Once the viewer pays, then they would have access to the website.

You don't need software. You need scripts. Go to Hotscripts.com and look around. Most stuff is free, others you have to pay for.

lol @ this thread.

Maybe your daughter could take up a better hobby like programming... that would solve all your problems.

Umm... What do you want me to say? No offense, but I've repeated it twice already. I'm really trying to make this as easy to understand as possible!

As covert and I mentioned already, you can go to hotscripts.com and they should have a login script in PHP or ASP. If you have no clue what that is or what you're getting into then you better talk to your friend.

Just read by two previous posts! Otherwise I'm just going to repeat everything.
