A unique thing I need to build....help anyone?
Well I have a security DVR that I can view from my web browser without any issues on any computer that can view the web...BUT I want to be able to view the dvr via the web with my PDA.

I have a treo 700w, but that should not matter. My dvr system has a function where I can upload images at intervals of my choosing to a FTP site or a Web Cam upload site, but I have no idea what the heck to build or do to make this active.

I know how to setup a site with FTP access. I know how to do an HTML basic site.

What is the flow I need to do?
Is there a free ware site place that does what I am looking for that I am no finding?

I have a photobucket site, but I don't think it will allow me to do what I need exactly, I think.

I don't what to just setup a image showing site.

I want to be able to have the pics uploaded and replacing the old as the new is uploaded, therefore creating a live webcam site.

So I can see things as they are actually happening, within speed abilities of the website and the EVDO verizon network.

Any help would be great.

You just need a free hosting service with FTP Access. Look here:
http://www.free-webhosts.com/webhosting-01.php

Then just build a page that is small enough will small enough images to support a PDA's screen resolution (you may want to use DIVs with a width of the screen to contain stuff so everything flows right) and then on the page just put like a couple images with names such as img1.jpg and img2.jpg.

Then let the DVR upload new images with the same name, so it will upload the new img1.jpg replacing the old one, and it will update on the HTML page.

Note: How often are you wanting to update the images? You can't create a live webcam-type setup will still images with the images updating every second or two for two reasons:
  1. The user wouldn't see the updated images unless you used JavaScript or unless they refreshed the page. They would just see the image that was uploaded when they first visited the page.
  2. It's just really illogical to use still images for a webcam-type setup. There are bandwidth issues and stuff.

So if you did want to create a live setup you would need streaming video, but I don't think that your DVR would support that.

Did I understand correctly?

at what speed woudl the picture need to get updated to be equivelent to a regular webcam?

If I wanted 15 FPS...then I would need to have it update every .25 seconds :P

Not going to happen.....at leat I don't think so...

Yeah, that's what I mean. You can't achieve a webcam effect will still images. You would need a streaming video system. You couldn't even upload one image in under half a second.

I had a webcam system on my site once, it auto-updated the pic every 1 second. This was a while ago, i don't even remember what it was called. I know it was the "trial" version of the software so all the pics had a stupid little message on them saying "demo"
