Intranet Site Help
I am trying to set up a "kiosk" type machine that will be connected to the company's intranet.

I have the machine set up and tested OK, but what I am trying to do is make a special web site designed for a "kiosk mode" interface. Specifically I am trying to be able to list a set of files in a directory (example *.mpg) and display them in a table, and when a user clicks on the name of the file (or associated picture), then the associated program (example WMP) will start and play the file as if it was on the local (kiosk) machine.

So far what I have is a list of the files I am looking to play, but when I click on the link, both IE and FF want to "download" the file, then open the program to play the file. Due to HD space (or lack of), and the lockdown on this machine, I can't have users saving files locally.

I am using Frontpage 2003 and .ASP.

EDIT: I have a virtual directory configured to "map" to another PC. IIS is able to map this correctly, and will show me the files in the specified folder, but when I try to view the webpage in IE or FF, it asks me for username/pw, but no matter what I type in, it's invalid. I am "mapping" to a "share on another server", but I have also tried mapping the drive in Windows and then "mapping" to a directory on the local server.

Any ideas?

If this is on a windows AD network you can apply a kiosk type GPO to lock down everything based on the OU the particular user and computer belongs to. You can also set default save locations in your GPO as well.

The thing is I don't want to "save" anything, or even download anything.

I am trying to do something along the lines of having a user click on a link, that will automatically launch an executable on the local machine, which will in turn automatically play a media file.

Do you or anyone else know of a VBScript or javascript that will allow executables to run on a local machine?
